Thank you for choosing furniture from Kids Home Fashion. With proper care, your furniture will give your family many years of safe and beautiful use. Please read this Care & Maintenance Guide carefully and keep it for future reference.
Following this Guide is a condition of our 5 year manufacturer’s warranty (see our Warranty & Returns Policy).
1. Placement
- Position furniture away from direct sunlight, heaters, air-conditioning vents and fireplaces. Direct heat and UV exposure can cause fading, warping, splitting and adhesive failure;
- Keep furniture in a stable indoor environment. Avoid rooms with extreme humidity (above 65%) or extreme dryness (below 30%);
- Place furniture on a level, stable surface;
- Wall-anchor any tall items (such as dressers, bookshelves and tallboys) using the supplied anti-tip restraint, in line with the assembly instructions, before use;
- Allow new furniture to acclimatise to your room for 24 hours before placing items on it.
2. Daily use
- Always observe the maximum weight specifications. For products designed to support a child, do not exceed the stated maximum child weight (typically 25 kg, or as marked on the product or in the instructions);
- Do not stand or sit on cot rails, drawer fronts, change tables or shelves;
- Do not allow children to climb on or jump on furniture;
- Always close drawers and doors gently. Do not slam;
- Avoid placing very hot, very cold, or wet items directly on the surface. Use coasters, mats or trivets;
- Do not use sharp objects on the surface;
- When moving furniture fitted with castors, unlock the castor brakes first.
3. Cleaning
- Dust regularly with a clean, dry, soft cloth (microfibre is ideal);
- For routine cleaning, use a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water, and dry immediately with a soft, clean cloth;
- For stubborn marks, a small amount of mild, pH-neutral household soap diluted in warm water may be used. Always test on an inconspicuous area first;
- Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining and swelling;
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, steel wool, bleach, ammonia, methylated spirits, solvents or furniture polish containing silicone. These can permanently damage the finish;
- Do not use steam cleaners.
4. Hardware and fittings
- Check all bolts, screws and fittings every 3–6 months and gently re-tighten if they have loosened with use;
- Do not over-tighten, as this can strip the threads or split timber components;
- If a fitting is damaged or missing, contact us before continuing to use the item.
5. Mattresses and accessories
- Use only a mattress that is the correct size for your cot, in accordance with the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2172;
- Rotate mattresses head-to-toe every few months for even wear;
- Use a fitted mattress protector to extend mattress life;
- Do not place pillows, soft toys or loose bedding in cots with infants under 12 months. Refer to Red Nose safe sleeping guidelines for the most current advice.
6. Disassembly, moving and storage
- When moving home, we recommend disassembling large items where possible to avoid damage to joints, fittings and finishes;
- Do not drag furniture across floors. Lift, or use furniture sliders;
- Store furniture in a clean, dry, climate-controlled space. Garages, sheds and unventilated storage units can cause permanent damage from humidity and temperature changes — damage caused by storage in unsuitable conditions is not covered by warranty.
7. Compliance
Our cots and other nursery furniture are designed and tested to comply with the relevant Australian mandatory safety standards in force at the time of manufacture, including AS/NZS 2172 (Cots) where applicable. Always use the product in line with its assembly instructions and intended purpose.
8. Warranty summary
